RF Coaxial Cable Assembly Selection Guide: From Connectors to Testing Requirements
RF coaxial cable assemblies consist of a coaxial cable and connectors installed at both ends. Although they appear simple, connector type, operating frequency, length and installation conditions all affect their suitability.
ZHIHE TECHNOLOGY recommends confirming the following six points before ordering:
Connector interface: Specify the connector series at ends A and B, such as SMA, BNC, TNC or Type N. Also indicate male or female, straight or right-angle, standard or reverse polarity. Interface photos, part numbers or drawings are helpful.
Impedance and frequency: Confirm whether the system requires 50 Ω or 75 Ω impedance and provide the actual operating frequency or frequency range. Different frequency ranges may require different cable and connector choices.
Length and measurement: State the required length, tolerance and measurement reference. For right-angle connectors, show their relative orientation. Also consider routing space and minimum bend radius.
Cable selection: Fixed installations, equipment interiors, repeated plugging and flexible test applications may require different levels of flexibility and mechanical protection.
Testing requirements: Depending on the application, specify insertion loss, return loss or VSWR, shielding performance, insulation, appearance and connector termination quality. Clarify whether testing applies to the cable only or the complete assembly.
Quantity and delivery: Provide sample and production quantities, packaging and labelling requirements, delivery date and destination. If test reports are required, specify the test range, limits and whether each assembly needs an individual report.
